Amazon Book Launch Insider Tips - Genre Inclusion, 7 Keywords, Stagger Release

  1. #1
You might be wondering how to get into these categories if you can't select them from the KDP dashboard. It's pretty simple. First, you must select Non-Classifiable as one of your categories, and then you must email KDP through the dashboard with the full path of the category you wish to appear in (e.g. Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Mystery & Thrillers > Mystery > Series).

The first thing I want readers to see when they finish my books is a sign-up to my mailing list. Next, I have blurbs for my other titles. Following that, a note requesting reviews. (NB: all of these links should be clickable.) Since I started putting a simple line asking for a review and stressing their importance, my review rate has soared.

  3. Choosing the right category for your book is crucial, and changing it at certain times can be very important.

  4. Try to stagger the news of your release over a few days. Even if that means your launch doesn't go as high in the Best Seller list as it could in the first week, it will benefit you in the long run. The algorithms will favor a sustained run of sales—even at a lower level—above a one-off sales spike that goes higher but then dies right away.

  5. Appearing on any Top Rated list is a challenge. To give yourself any chance at all, make sure you have a note in the back of your books that requests reviews. And make sure it's clickable. While you won't be able to insert a clickable link when you first upload your book, you should do so at the first opportunity post-release.

    As with all keywords
You only get to choose seven keywords, so make sure they are relevant to your book.

In short, going free on Amazon, if done right, doesn't just stimulate word of mouth, it simulates it too because the algorithms begin recommending your book to readers on a wide scale.

Which is why it's important to have several titles
With regard to the Also Boughts appearing on your book page, the ideal books to appear there are ones that you have written (so readers don't get tempted away to someone else's page).

a free run will change your Also Boughts dramatically (both on your page, and the pages your book appears on)

The most obvious time a book "cliffs" is about a month after release.

For authors of a more recent vintage, going free has two huge benefits: discoverability and visibility

Book Metadata - Sub-titles - Amazon Keyword Book Research

The book cover is critical and having a striking image at thumbnail size is important. The blurb is the most important thing. Continually tweak the Product Description. Study the books in the Top 10 and work out what it is about them that set them apart. Nail the blurb and literally sales will double. Simplify the story and hook people in. People don't need to know about you. Controversial sub-titles; using descriptions such as 'a gripping psychological thriller' in the subtitle is subject to being penalized by Amazon. Don't do it! Use keyword data from Google and Amazon (within the pre-populated search drop down box - while within the books section - and within your general genre section (fiction, nonfiction etc).

http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/39893-the-most-important-things-are-the-hardest-to-say-they

"The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a tellar but for want of an understanding ear."
